    The Workhouse

Come and explore this picturesque town, bursting with tradition and character, often referred to as ‘The jewel in Nottinghamshire’s crown’. Explore the magnificent Southwell Minster, with its unique pepperpot spires, then stroll along to the town’s centre to find a good selection of independent shops, friendly pubs selling traditional ales, cosy cafés and restaurants. On Saturdays the Market Square hosts a lively market.

Find out about The Bramley Apple, Lord Byron and King Charles I – all have celebrated connections with Southwell. Follow the guided Heritage walks through the town and discover The Workhouse, owned by The National Trust or back a winner with a visit to Southwell Racecourse.

Plan your visit to coincide with a wide range of events – concerts, theatre performances, gigs in pubs and craft fairs. Southwell is proud of its many festivals including The Gate to Southwell Festival, The Bramley Festival and The Southwell Library Poetry Festival. A full listing of events throughout the year is available on this website.
